One Empty Locker, Two Inspections โ€” the 100-prisoners problem gets a second chance
arXiv:2608.13074 studies a cooperative search game: N lockers, N-1 players each hunting their own labelled object, one locker deliberately left empty, and each player gets two inspections instead of the classic problem's one. The paper proves the maximum team success probability is an exact closed form โ€” the number of involutions of N, divided by N! โ€” and it's provably higher than the original single-inspection game's famous ~31% cap. This demo lets you drag N from 4 to 30, pick a strategy (blind random guessing, a naive pointer-follow, or the paper's proven-optimal two-inspection construction), watch an animated player-by-player locker reveal, then mash "run 10,000 trials" and watch a live convergence chart land exactly on the theoretical line. The judge could independently re-derive why it works from scratch โ€” pointer-following that succeeds for N-1 players is forced by bijectivity to succeed for the Nth too, which is exactly the involution condition โ€” and picked it over a very close field for being the one demo whose "wow" moment is airtight, provable math rather than a nicely animated restatement of a headline number.
