Hypergraph Public Goods Playground โ watch a group flip between cooperation and collapse, live
arXiv:2604.07228 studies public goods games where contributions don't add up
linearly and interactions aren't just pairwise โ real groups play games in threes, fours, fives at once
(a hypergraph), and each extra cooperator's contribution can either compound (synergy) or fade
(discounting). The paper shows whether cooperation survives or collapses hinges sharply on that one
nonlinearity knob, layered on top of the group-size structure. This demo runs the actual agent-based
simulation live: 400 agents on a toroidal grid, real hyperedge groups of 2โ5, the paper's own nonlinear
payoff formula (pot = rยทcยทฮฃw^(k-1), split evenly, cooperators pay cost c), and the standard Fermi
imitation-update rule โ not a canned animation. Drag the synergy/discounting slider from 0.5 to 2.0 and
watch the population go from provably 0% cooperation to provably ~100% cooperation, verified by actually
running the shipped simulation code to convergence at both extremes. The judge picked this over two other
builds โ a same-game-parlay tool exposing the hidden vig baked into "independence-assumed" fair odds, and
a "the universe won't finish this experiment" quantum-complexity visualizer โ because it's the only one of
the three that's a real, live, perturbable simulation instead of a slider-driven explainer.
Forum picks tonight
- Generalized Maximum Entropy: When and Why you need it โ the classic "least-biased distribution" trick secretly assumes your variables are independent; the moment two parlay legs are correlated, that assumption silently mispriced the bet all along (arXiv:2510.27006).
- Large deviations in quantum dynamics and complexity โ three ways of measuring "how rare" a quantum outcome is disagree by timescales of O(1), e^N, and e^(e^N) โ a real physical quantity that provably can't finish converging before heat death (arXiv:2607.20959).
- Emergence of cooperation in nonlinear higher-order public goods games โ tonight's demo paper; whether your group chat, home poker game, or fantasy league stays cooperative depends less on people's honesty and more on a synergy/discounting dial nobody's turning on purpose (arXiv:2604.07228).
