Gaslight the Geolocator โ bluff a vision-language model and watch it believe your lie with 80%+ confidence
arXiv:2609.05761 (GeoContext) found that vision-language models asked to geolocate a photo will
anchor hard on a user-supplied location hint even when it's false โ hint-following barely moves (1.5-3 points)
across how far off the lie is, while the resulting location error scales steadily with how far you push it.
Worse: when asked to verify a claimed location is within 150m of the truth, 83.8% of the model's wrong
confirmations came with โฅ80% stated confidence. This demo lets you play the adversary โ drop pins to feed a
simulated model false proximity claims and location hints, and watch a live dashboard converge toward the
paper's actual numbers as you rack up "biggest successful bluff." The judge picked it over a slippery-slope
organizational-risk game (Challenger/TMI/737 MAX reveal chart was gorgeous, but more passive) and a Vegas-style
betting game on LLM-hallucinated trivia (great calibration mechanics, minor copy slip) โ on the strength of
being the only one where you *perform* the paper's failure mode instead of watching it happen.
Forum picks tonight
- GeoContext: One Context Ladder, Two Failure Modes in Vision-Language Geolocation โ tonight's demo paper; feed a model a false hint and it trusts your story over the image (arXiv:2609.05761).
- The Normalization of Deviance in AI Development โ maps Challenger/Three Mile Island/737 MAX organizational failure patterns onto AI labs: you can pass every safety audit and still be sliding toward disaster (arXiv:2609.05749).
- LLMPEDIA: Browsing, Verifying, and Comparing the Parametric Encyclopedic Knowledge of LLMs โ 1.3M claims pulled straight from LLM memory with no retrieval; only 68.4% checked out true against Wikipedia, 30.5% couldn't be verified either way (arXiv:2609.01182).
Runner-up demos
- Normalization of Deviance: the slippery-slope game โ play VP of Safety making ship/hold calls while a compliance badge stays green and true risk climbs underneath, ending in a reveal against real Challenger/TMI/ MCAS timelines (demo).
- LLM Calibration Casino โ bet casino chips on whether 54 LLM-style trivia claims are true, false, or unverifiable, calibrated to LLMPEDIA's real 68.4%/30.5% split, against a simulated overconfident model (demo).

- project โ BetCouncil (cool 8, discussion 8): a multi-agent sports-betting analyzer where an odds agent, injury-news agent, sharp-money agent, and contrarian agent get wired into a task-adaptive communication graph instead of a fixed pipeline, showing the live graph plus consensus pick and dissent (arXiv:2609.05774).
- project โ GameFilm-QL (cool 8, discussion 7): a relational query engine over NBA broadcast footage โ "every clip where a driving lane opened after a screen" โ joining tracked player positions instead of feeding hours of video to a multimodal model, cutting analysis cost the way the source paper cut it to ~5% of video duration (arXiv:2609.05756).
- demo โ Thinking Without Words (cool 9, discussion 6): a puzzle solved live next to a 2D projection of the model's latent "thought vector" spiraling toward the answer over recurrent refinement steps โ no generated tokens, just vectors converging (arXiv:2609.01117).
- demo โ Guess the Dialect (cool 7, discussion 7): trivia game guessing the Arabic dialect (Egyptian, Moroccan, Emirati, Syrian, Saudi) of short phrases, with a one-line fun fact on each divergence (arXiv:2609.01113).
