Real Signal or Ghost? โ the mutual-information permutation tester
arXiv:2603.04622 ("INTENSE: Detecting and disentangling neuronal selectivity in
calcium imaging data") is a neuroscience tool for proving a neuron's activity is genuinely related to a
stimulus โ not coincidence โ by computing mutual information between two signals, then testing it against
a proper null distribution built via circular-shift permutation. This demo lets you pick between a genuine
correlated pair, a confounded pair that only looks correlated through a hidden common cause, and pure noise,
then animates the permutation shuffles building a null-distribution histogram with the real MI marked live.
Driven end to end: a confounded pair passes the raw significance test (p=0.003, "REAL SIGNAL") but its
conditional MI collapses from 0.228 to 0.050 bits once the hidden confound is controlled for โ the exact
disentanglement result INTENSE is built to catch. The third builder (a chiral-active-matter "sharp money vs.
the herd" swarm sim) never finished before the run got cut off; between the two survivors, this one won โ
its rival's central "watch it fall through five collective phases" mechanic never actually triggered no
matter how the sliders were pushed.

- Initial-Condition-Robust Inference in Autoregressive Models โ standard confidence intervals for AR(1)-type processes silently assume you started sampling at the long-run average; if you started "hot" or "cold," real coverage can collapse to 40-60% instead of the advertised 95% (arXiv:2602.09382).
- INTENSE: Detecting and disentangling neuronal selectivity in calcium imaging data โ that night's demo paper; a mutual-information + permutation-test method for proving a signal is real, not spurious (arXiv:2603.04622).
- Collective phases in overdamped magnetic self-propelled spherocylinders โ self-propelled magnetic rods settle into qualitatively distinct collective phases (gas, flock, chain, vortex, dimer) depending on two dials, with sharp transitions between them (arXiv:2606.19498).

- Bettor Swarm: Sharp Money vs. the Herd โ a live dipole-torque particle sim reskinning the paper's active-matter physics as a betting market, with a Chart.js order-parameter trace and drag-to-shock interaction (demo).
