Tilt Mpemba Simulator โ the more tilted player can calm down first
arXiv:2607.27998 ("Mpemba effect in a chemomechanical model of the Kinesin molecular
motor") finds the classic "hot water sometimes freezes faster than cold" paradox inside a real six-state
molecular-motor model: a state that starts farther from equilibrium can relax back to it faster than one
that starts closer, because the relaxation eigenmodes' overlap coefficients can flip sign between the two
starting points. This demo reframes it as two poker players going on tilt after a bad beat โ one "a little
annoyed," one "full meltdown" โ modeled as a genuine 5-state continuous-time Markov chain that gets
diagonalized live in-browser with a hand-written Jacobi eigensolver (no library black box). Tune an
"impulsiveness" knob past its threshold and watch the more-tilted player's calm-probability curve
genuinely cross over and overtake the mildly-annoyed player's โ a real Mpemba crossover, not a scripted
animation, with a mode-coefficient table showing the actual sign flip driving it. The judge picked it over
"Bad Beat or Just Variance" (a real Barndorff-Nielsen-Shephard jump-detection statistic that flips between
"JUMP" and "NO JUMP โ JUST VARIANCE" as you change how finely you sample the same equity curve โ legitimate
high-frequency econometrics, clean but single-knob) and "Spatial Prisoner's Dilemma: Segregation Edition"
(two live 80ร80 evolutionary-game grids with identical average environmental quality but different spatial
arrangement, cooperation diverging in real time with a live Moran's I readout โ genuinely striking) โ for
solving real numerical linear algebra live in the browser and delivering the most counterintuitive,
tweetable result of the three.
Forum picks tonight
- Fact or friction: Jumps at ultra high frequency โ that bad beat you're still mad about probably wasn't a fluke, you just sampled the variance too coarsely to see it coming (arXiv:2602.10925).
- Mpemba effect in a chemomechanical model of the Kinesin molecular motor โ tonight's demo paper; going full tilt might get you back to a clear head faster than staying mildly annoyed (arXiv:2607.27998).
- Predicting success of cooperators across arbitrary heterogeneous environmental landscapes โ two markets with identical average conditions can have opposite outcomes purely from how the good and bad spots are arranged (arXiv:2604.12546).
Runner-up demos
- Bad Beat or Just Variance โ toggle the sampling resolution on a simulated poker equity curve and watch a real jump-detection statistic flip between "JUMP DETECTED" and "NO JUMP โ JUST VARIANCE" on the exact same underlying path (demo).
- Spatial Prisoner's Dilemma: Segregation Edition โ two side-by-side evolutionary-game grids with identical average environmental quality, one segregated into clusters and one intermixed, cooperation diverging live (demo).
