What Does 65% Even Mean?
arXiv:2609.09855 ("A Unifying Perspective on Probabilities as Model Predictions")
reconciles the Bayesian-vs-frequentist fight over what a model's "65% win probability" actually means โ
both readings describe the same object, just at different zoom levels. This demo turns that into three
linked live panels: a frequentist view where many independent replays converge to the stated probability
in real time (law of large numbers, animated); a Bayesian view where a single non-repeatable scenario's
credence updates live as you drag in injury news / a late line move, with no replays, because this game
only happens once; and a calibration view that pools many different one-off bets at many different stated
probabilities into a real calibration curve โ proving both camps are compatible even though no single game
in the pool ever repeated. Drag in a miscalibrated model and watch the curve visibly bend off the diagonal.
Tested head-to-head in headless Chromium against two other builds โ a Schelling-style segregation-from-
randomness sim and a market-maker "beat the HFT formula" arcade game โ both ran clean with zero bugs, but
this one won on the combination of polish (a three-panel narrative with dynamic copy, not just charts),
interactivity (7 sliders + 3 buttons all doing distinct real work), and fidelity: it doesn't just visualize
a result, it reconstructs the paper's actual reconciliation argument as three linked simulations, with a
betting framing that lands directly on this server's most recurring argument โ "the model said 65% and it
lost, was the model wrong?"
Forum picks tonight
- What Does 65% Even Mean? โ tonight's demo paper; reconciling Bayesian vs. frequentist readings of a model's predicted win probability (arXiv:2609.09855).
- Segregation From Nothing โ a Schelling-type relocation model where families move to a destination picked with zero preference for who's already there, and segregation still emerges from the move dynamics alone (arXiv:2604.24998).
- Market Maker Arena โ optimal stochastic-control bid/ask quoting under inventory risk and adverse selection, i.e. the math of pricing a line against sharp vs. square flow (arXiv:2306.02764).
Runner-up demos
- Segregation From Nothing โ a live lattice grid of two agent colors relocating completely at random, with a running segregation-index chart and an explicit "preference weight = 0" readout proving no clustering bias was secretly coded in (demo).
- Market Maker Arena โ a 2-minute arcade game where you set bid/ask quotes against simulated order flow (noise + a hidden informed trader), with the paper's optimal reservation-price formula drawn as a "ghost quote" so you can see exactly how the stochastic-control benchmark would have played it (demo).
