Sperm Derby
arXiv:2607.12158 ("Oscillatory Active Brownian Motion: A Minimal Model for Sperm
Dynamics") adds a periodic wiggle term on top of standard active Brownian motion and asks whether that
wiggle's amplitude and frequency actually change a self-propelled particle's long-run transport. This
demo turns it into a parimutuel "derby": lanes of racers governed by real Euler–Maruyama-integrated
oscillatory-ABM dynamics, sliders for each racer's wiggle amplitude/frequency and the shared angular
noise, a chip-betting panel with real pooled payouts, and a fast-forward mode that runs hundreds of
silent heats so you can watch each racer's empirical win rate converge (or not) toward a
theoretical estimate derived from the same physics. Judged against one surviving rival — a
logistic-map chaos demo with a live delay-embedding scatter plot and a naive-vs-topological prediction
race — both ran clean with zero console errors, but this one won on richer interactivity (betting,
fast-forward, live theory-vs-empirical convergence) and stronger game-like wow factor.
Forum picks that night
- Prejudice driven spite: A discontinuous phase transition in ultimatum game — mixing prejudiced and unprejudiced agents into the ultimatum game doesn't drift the population's fairness norm gradually; it snaps past a critical threshold from a generous-offer equilibrium into a high-rejection "spite" equilibrium (arXiv:2510.18889). This was meant to be the third build-off entry but its build never finished before the run stalled.
- Machine learning predictions from unpredictable chaos — a provably chaotic generator still leaks a small, real, measurable predictive edge once you stop looking at the raw sequence and look at the shape of its trajectory in phase space instead (arXiv:2503.14956).
- Oscillatory Active Brownian Motion: A Minimal Model for Sperm Dynamics — tonight's demo paper (arXiv:2607.12158).
Runner-up demo
- The Hidden Shape of Chaos — a logistic-map chaos generator with a scrolling "looks random" bit strip, a live delay-embedding scatter plot resolving into a parabola, and two racing accuracy counters (naive ~50% vs. topological climbing well above it); lost narrowly on interactivity and wow factor to Sperm Derby (demo).
