Back the road favorites in Week 1 and you got burned. Home teams went 5โ1 with an average margin of double digits โ these were beatdowns, not coin-flips. But chalk it up to "the better team" and you miss the film. Go to the All-22 and the same three things keep deciding games: red-zone efficiency, winning the phases, and who was active. Explosive plays and tempo? Barely mattered.
โถ Game Center โ the full play-by-play of how each game unfolded (the runs, the turnovers, the moment it turned).
GidTheKid2 was without its franchise player โ Harry G, the No. 1 overall pick, was ruled inactive โ and the short-handed group got run out of the building. sumin dominated every phase: a ground-game sweep, a field-position sweep on special teams, and a 3โ1 edge on the deep ball, while Gid moved it in just one area. Reeling and thin, Gid turned it over 5 times. sumin also finished drives (64% in the red zone). Angelina Y and Advai S led the rout. An all-time final.
Don't blame the offense for mingle โ they won the ground game 3โ0, split special teams and the deep ball, and even moved faster. They just couldn't finish: 2-for-9 in the red zone (22%). Settle for that many empty trips and you lose by seven scores. xpoes stayed balanced โ owning the short passing game and third down, 55% in the red zone โ and pulled away. theenash s piled up yards in a losing effort.
The closest game on the slate, and a lesson in finishing. anurag actually moved the ball better โ winning the ground game, the short passing attack, and the screen game. But dan flipped it where it counts: 60% in the red zone to anurag's 36%, while anurag sabotaged itself with 3 turnovers. In a league this efficient, finishing drives beats racking up yards. Sean F led anurag; Lishan P and Dennis J carried dan.
(Stitch)ยฒ owned the trenches โ a ground-game sweep and the deep ball โ but czz had the best player on the field. vishnu m scored three touchdowns, finding the end zone from everywhere: a special-teams sweep and command on third down. Pair that with a 55%-to-40% red-zone edge and it was over. The lone favorite to survive the whole slate.
The most counterintuitive box of the weekend: James W was more explosive AND better in the red zone (62% to 42%) โ and lost by seven. The reason was volume of drives. cryo simply moved the ball more across more of the field, sweeping the screen game and the deep ball and winning the short passing attack. James W's edges (the ground game, special teams) were real but too narrow. The preseason favorite, meet variance. Edward paced cryo.
72 combined points and almost no empty drives โ a track meet from the opening kickoff. Both offenses were automatic in the red zone (67% each), so it came down to volume, and ChessFun had more โ a ground-game sweep (4โ0) and the overall edge, sparked by Eric L and his quick-strike scoring. Kian D found the end zone three times to keep Connor within range, but never closer.
All 14 teams after Week 1, both conferences โ top to bottom.
EAST
| # | Team | The Take |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | xpoes | Balanced in every phase, no holes โ the cleanest win in the conference. |
| 2 | sumin | 38โ13 is 38โ13. (Yes, Gid was missing its No. 1 pick โ but you can only beat who's active.) |
| 3 | dan.k.memes | Out-finished a good anurag team in the red zone. Quietly 1โ0 the right way. |
| 4 | GidTheKid2 | Don't overreact to the blowout โ the No. 1 overall pick was inactive. Get Harry G back and this is a top-2 team. |
| 5 | anurag | Out-gained dan and lost anyway. Fix the red zone (36%) and the turnovers; the talent's there. |
| 6 | mingle/Yunyi | Moved the ball, went 2-of-9 in the red zone. Correctable, but ugly. |
| 7 | Fez_Keyreb | On bye โ incomplete. We'll learn a lot next week. |
WEST
| # | Team | The Take |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | ChessFun | 41 points in a shootout win over a contender. Hottest team in the league. |
| 2 | cryo | Beat the preseason favorite by a touchdown on depth, not stars. Real. |
| 3 | czz | vishnu m is a one-man offense. While he's rolling, they're dangerous. |
| 4 | Connor Chang | Lost the shootout, but Kian D is a star. Bounce-back coming. |
| 5 | James W | The preseason A+ is 0โ1. Prove it on the field. |
| 6 | (Stitch)ยฒ | Outclassed across the board. Needs a response. |
| 7 | jonathan | On bye โ total unknown. Debuts next week. |
The books hung every favorite at โ5 to โ7, then watched them get steamrolled. Fading the chalk was the play of the week: five of six dogs cashed. And nobody saw it coming โ lines barely moved toward the underdogs pre-kick and only flipped once the games were out of hand. The wildest swing was sumin, a double-digit dog that closed at a 98% implied winner after the rout. The takeaway: this league does not respect preseason reputation.
| Player | Team | Pts | Scores | TO |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| vishnu m | czz | 18 | 3 | 1 |
| Kian D | Connor Chang | 18 | 3 | 0 |
| theenash s | mingle/Yunyi | 12 | 2 | 1 |
| Angelina Y | sumin | 12 | 2 | 0 |
| Sean F | anurag | 12 | 2 | 1 |
| Eric L | ChessFun | 12 | 2 | 0 |
โก Quickest strike: Eric L โ explosive, decisive, on the gas all game. Ball security issues: William Jung and Praneel led the league with 3 giveaways apiece โ William's in that short-handed 38โ13 loss, which tells its own story.
Week 2 is an all-divisional slate. sumin and (Stitch)ยฒ are on bye, while jonathan and Fez_Keyreb open their seasons after a Week-1 bye โ two unknowns with no tape on them. And the question hanging over the weekend: does home field hold a second straight week?
The marquee matchup, and an MVP showdown: Kian D (a hat-trick in Week 1) goes on the road to face vishnu m (32 and Player of the Week). Two of the league's most loaded rosters, two players who each put the team on their back. Connor is coming off the wrong end of a shootout and wants to prove it was noise; vishnu just showed he can win one alone. Whichever supporting cast travels decides it โ the stars are going to trade scores all afternoon.
Two teams off Week-1 stumbles, so somebody bounces back. The hinge is the status of the No. 1 overall pick โ if Harry G is active, GidTheKid2 is a vastly deeper team than the group sumin embarrassed. anurag has a cleaner fix: they out-gained dan.k.memes and still lost, undone by red-zone failures and turnovers. Tighten it up and they're a problem.
Two of Week 1's most convincing wins, opposite identities. ChessFun put up 120 behind Eric L's quick-strike attack; cryo won by going deep into its bench and moving the ball everywhere. If it's a track meet, ChessFun's firepower travels โ if it grinds, cryo's depth wears them down.
Two unbeatens square off as dan.k.memes (won on red-zone efficiency) visits xpoes (won on balance) โ a clash of blueprints that sets the early divisional order. Around it, bounce-back spots everywhere: preseason favorite James W must shake off an upset against debutant jonathan, and mingle/Yunyi โ sunk by that 2-of-9 red-zone day โ host the other returnee, Fez_Keyreb. Unknown opponents, motivated hosts: the exact recipe that produced Week 1's chaos.
