The bookmakers had their worst week of the season. Both of the model's double-digit favourites lost outright โ Connor Chang were demolished by five clear goals, and anurag, a heavy home favourite, went down to xpoes by three โ the week's losers gave the ball away at the whistle, and across the full slate the model went 2-of-6 on the winner. We're again grading every club against xG: the goals a side should have scored given exactly who made the teamsheet and how strong each zone lineup was. This week it delivered a blunt verdict โ volume, not finishing, decided everything, and the two divisions finally grew a top. Note the schedule: it was a full six-fixture round, with one match (jonathan v (Stitch)ยฒ) played in two halves that count as a single merged result, so only two sides โ dan.k.memes and ChessFun โ had no fixture this week.
For every side that played we model the goals it should have scored given the exact XI that dressed and each club's zone strength, then compare it to what actually hit the net. Positive = overperformed (scored more than the fixture implied); negative = underperformed. Two clubs โ dan.k.memes and ChessFun โ had no fixture and take no new mark.
| Side | Chances | xG | ฮ | Read |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| cryo | 15 | 8.5 | +6.5 | A five-goal demolition โ swept the range 3โ0 and midfield 2โ0, +6.5, the best line of the week. Clear No. 1 in the West now. |
| mingle/Yunyi | 13 | 8.0 | +5.0 | Won a division derby at 38% clinical on sheer volume โ 13 chances, zero giveaways. The new class of the East. |
| James W | 15 | 10.0 | +5.0 | A four-goal statement, the counter whitewashed 4โ0, akhil eight goal contributions. Scariest ceiling in the West. |
| xpoes | 13 | 8.6 | +4.4 | Finally cashed one โ beat a three-goal favourite at 38% clinical on 13 chances, Rohan G's ghost XI on the right side at last. |
| Fez_Keyreb | 10 | 8.4 | +1.6 | Lost by a single goal but beat its number on an Advik S breakout. Arrow pointing up hard. |
| (Stitch)ยฒ | 9 | 8.4 | +0.6 | Ground out the merged win in the lowest-scoring fixture of the week, just over its number โ but the โ168 diff and low volume make it fragile. |
| GidTheKid2 | 10 | 9.6 | +0.4 | Par-plus, but a box 0โ4 sweep against them sank a division game they were favoured in. Talent, no closing. |
| sumin | 10 | 9.7 | +0.3 | Edged a two-goal war on a 70% clinical night and a wings 3โ1. The most complete East side. |
| jonathan | 9 | 8.9 | +0.1 | Matched Stitch on chances (9) and finishing (56%) and edged its number โ but gave the ball away six times to Stitch's two, and that gap was the whole margin. The West cellar. |
| anurag | 8 | 9.2 | โ1.2 | Priced as a three-goal home favourite and lost outright to xpoes โ came in under its number. The East's slice of the model's worst week. |
| czz | 6 | 8.8 | โ2.8 | Blasted by five goals โ six giveaways, and 67% clinical was pure noise on just 6 chances. The ugly-wins team got exposed. |
| Connor Chang | 6 | 10.0 | โ4.0 | Run by five on a short squad at 17% clinical. Availability priced reality; the book priced Kian D's ceiling. |
The story of the week, and the model's worst miss of the season. cryo were unplayable โ 15 chances against an xG of 8.5 (+6.5), the biggest overperformance of the round โ sweeping the range 3โ0 and the midfield 2โ0. suzuko was the engine (2G+1A; he set the tempo at word 26) in a five-goal rout that never let up.
Connor Chang were priced as the road favourite and got run off the pitch. On a short teamsheet they converted just 17% of their chances (1 of 6), came in 4 goals under their number (โ4.0) and managed only a counter flurry (3โ1) to show for it. dannyridel led the line with three goal contributions but nothing beat the keeper. The book made Connor an odds-on favourite; availability, again, priced the truth.
A four-goal statement from a preseason favourite that keeps growing. James W overperformed at 15 vs 10.0 (+5.0), headlined by a counter 4โ0 whitewash. akhil paced it with a week-high eight goal contributions (2G+1A) โ volume with a bite, even if it came with three giveaways of his own.
czz's half was ugly. They mustered just 6 chances (โ2.8), and while the box score flatters a 67% clinical night, that rate on that little volume is noise โ the actual damage was six giveaways that handed James W the tempo all night. Achuth's two contributions were as good as it got. A side that co-leads the West on record got blasted by five, and the coverage line says it wasn't close.
The purest volume-over-finishing win of the year. mingle/Yunyi won at just 38% clinical โ and it didn't matter, because they generated 13 chances against an 8.0 expectation (+5.0) with zero giveaways and swept the box 4โ0. roshan ran it (2G+0A), fastest touch of any top scorer at word 16, in a clean, ruthless shift.
Gid were the odds-on side and lost. This wasn't availability โ close to full strength โ and their range 3โ0 was genuinely good, but a box 0โ4 sweep against them was a hole no other zone could fill. Monish S (1G+0A) led the reply. They landed right on their number (10 vs 9.6); the talent is there, the closing in a game they were favoured in still isn't.
This one was played as two halves meant to be a single fixture, so it's reported as one merged result โ and it was the lowest-scoring match of the week. Chances were dead even (9 apiece), both sides finished at a normal clip (56%), and each edged just over its number. (Stitch)ยฒ came in at 9 vs 8.4 (+0.6) and ground out the win, with pancreas uvula (1G+1A, the match-winner) the difference-maker in a low-key grind.
jonathan matched Stitch step for step โ the same 9 chances, the same 56% finishing, its own 9 vs 8.9 (+0.1) โ and still lost, because the killer was discipline: six giveaways to Stitch's two. That gap was the entire margin. edwin h (1G+0A) and kensuke o (0G+1A) traded a counter edge (2โ1), but with possession leaking at the buzzer, the West cellar stayed the West cellar.
The tightest fixture of the week. sumin edged it on efficiency โ a 70% clinical night (7/10) and a wings 3โ1 just enough over a well-drilled Fez. Lucas W led the line (1G+1A, five goal contributions). It's a win, but as a heavy favourite sumin didn't cover the number โ the two-goal war stayed a war to the whistle.
Fez keep pointing up. They actually beat their number (10 vs 8.4, +1.6) and were the cleaner side โ just one giveaway all match โ with an Advik S breakout (1G+0A, four goal contributions at a patient word 36) the headline. Lose by one on the road while beating your xG, and the arrow only sharpens. First-choice Fez is a problem for the East.
The other double-digit price that detonated. xpoes did it the mingle way โ 13 chances against an xG of 8.6 (+4.4) at just 38% clinical โ and finally got its ghost XI on the winning side. Rohan G was the difference (1G+1A, a team-high six goal contributions), the running man who has beaten his number all season without a result to show for it, at last on the right end of one.
anurag were priced as a three-goal home favourite and lost outright โ a three-goal swing against the number. They came in under their xG (8 vs 9.2, โ1.2), leaned on the box (2โ1) and a set-piece edge but couldn't match the volume, and only Sean (1G+0A) troubled the keeper. A full-strength xpoes turning up was all it took; availability priced the week, not the rating.
All 14 sides after Matchweek 5, both conferences. Records first, but the takes lean on xG โ who's really as good as their result. Two clubs had no fixture; a bye doesn't bury a good record, but it doesn't earn a new mark either.
EAST
| # | Side | The Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | mingle/Yunyi | 3โ1, +184 diff, best in the East. Won at 38% clinical on sheer volume (+5.0, zero giveaways). The new class of the conference. |
| 2 | sumin | 3โ1, +130. Survived a two-goal war with Fez on a 70% clinical night. The most complete East side. |
| 3 | dan.k.memes | 3โ1 but โ74 diff and no fixture. The record still outruns the goal difference; regression watch stays on. |
| 4 | xpoes | 2โ3, โ8 diff. Finally cashed one โ beat a three-goal favourite (anurag) outright, Rohan G's ghost XI on the right side at last. Best goal difference of the pack below the top three. |
| 5 | GidTheKid2 | 2โ3, โ166. Same record as xpoes on a โ158-worse difference; lost a derby it was favoured in as a box 0โ4 sweep sank it. Talent, no closing. |
| 6 | Fez_Keyreb | 1โ3, โ12, but lost by one and beat its number (+1.6) with an Advik S breakout. The arrow points up hard. |
| 7 | anurag | 1โ3, โ54. Laid a three-goal favourite's egg, losing to xpoes by three โ the East's slice of the model's worst week. Came in under its own xG. |
WEST
| # | Side | The Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | cryo | 3โ2, +174. A five-goal demolition, +6.5 over xG. Clear No. 1 in the conference now. |
| 2 | James W | 3โ1, +166. A four-goal statement, the counter swept 4โ0, akhil eight contributions. The scariest ceiling in the West. |
| 3 | czz | 3โ2, โ74. Co-leads on record but got blasted by five (โ2.8, six giveaways). The depth-and-ugly-wins team got exposed. |
| 4 | ChessFun | 2โ2, โ42. No fixture; holding pattern, the rotation still the question. No new mark. |
| 5 | (Stitch)ยฒ | 2โ2, โ168. Ground out a 2โ1 over jonathan, but the โ168 diff and low volume make it fragile. |
| 6 | Connor Chang | 1โ3, +22. Kian D's ceiling is real, but they got run by five at 17% clinical. Availability is the whole story. |
| 7 | jonathan | 1โ3, โ78. Gave the ball away out of a winnable grind โ six giveaways, but matched Stitch on chances and finishing. The West cellar. |
The book's worst week of the season: it went 2-of-6 on the winner, and both of its double-digit favourites lost outright. Connor Chang was made a road favourite and lost by five โ the season's worst price, where the model bought Kian D's ceiling and a short squad sold reality (17% clinical). anurag was priced a three-goal home favourite and lost by three to xpoes โ a three-goal swing against the number when a full-strength opponent showed up. GidTheKid2 were odds-on and lost the derby to mingle. And sumin, priced heavily, won โ but only by the odd goal, the right side with no cover. The hits were emphatic: James W chalk turned into a 4โ1 rout (a huge cover), and (Stitch)ยฒ covered in the 2โ1 grind. The lesson for next week is the one this league keeps teaching: keep fading short prices on sides whose whole number rides one star's ceiling and a lineup that might not dress.
| Player | Side | G+A | Errors | Avg touch (word) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| roshan | mingle/Yunyi | 2G+0A | 0 | 16 |
| akhil | James W | 2G+1A | 3 | 20 |
| Advik S | Fez_Keyreb | 1G+0A | 0 | 36 |
| Lucas W | sumin | 1G+1A | 1 | 27 |
| suzuko | cryo | 2G+1A | 1 | 26 |
| pancreas uvula | (Stitch)ยฒ | 1G+1A | 0 | 19 |
โก Most electric: roshan (touch word 16) and Stitch's pancreas uvula (19) beat everyone to the ball. Sloppy in possession: czz and jonathan coughed up six giveaways apiece โ the exact clubs whose losses turned on the ball they gave away. Discipline, not talent, wrote both their nights.
The two divisions have new leaders, and the storylines all point at the top. With exact Matchweek 6 fixtures not yet confirmed, the lens is on the questions the round has to answer rather than invented team sheets.
The West's ceiling in one fixture, if the calendar delivers it. cryo (3โ2) just posted the week's best line (+6.5) in a five-goal demolition; James W (3โ1) answered with a counter-whitewash 4โ1 statement of their own. Two clubs that beat their number by five-plus, both surging โ whenever they meet, it settles who's the genuine class of the conference at the midpoint.
